Info for fire training participants

Welcome to the Meriturva fire training. Please read these guidelines before you come to the course.

Training venue

Meriturvan Palokoulutusyksikkö sijaitsee Kirkkonummella Upinniemen varuskunnan alueella. Kartta ja saapumisohjeet löytyvät yhteystietosivulta.

When you arrive in Upinniemi, wait for our instructor in the parking lot outside the garrison gate. The instructor will pick up those arriving by car at 08.20 and those arriving by public transport at 08.30.

However, if the group has a permanent pass to the Upinniemi Garrison area regardless of participation in the Meriturvan course, the instructor will not come to pick you up at the gate, but you can arrive directly at the Fire Training Unit and wait for the instructor in the main lobby.

Remember to take your photo ID with you!

When driving in the Upinniemi garrison area, you must strictly observe the speed limits there. Parking in the garrison area is only allowed in the parking areas!

Parking for the fire training unit is located behind the training building. Eight electric car charging points (22 kW, Type 2) are available to customers and are charged using the Card Charge application.

Training

The training starts at 08.30. Depending on the nature of the training and the size of the group, the length of the day will vary. However, we aim to finish by 16.00.

Those arriving by car are kindly requested to take into account the impact of the morning traffic in southern Finland.

Health

Training usually involves physical exertion. It is therefore important that the participant is in good health. In practice, a normally fit participant will be able to cope with the training.

If you are in doubt about whether your health is good enough to participate in the course, check with your doctor. You must not attend the course under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances. If you are or suspect that you are pregnant, please discuss your pregnancy with your doctor. For more information on the content and requirements of the course, please contact the training coordinator.

The participant assesses his/her own health condition in the participation form to be filled in before the course. Meriturva staff has the right to refuse a person's participation in the training due to health or other reasons.

Equipment

The Fire Training Unit will provide the students with a fire-fighting suit.

Take it with you:

  • toiletries and towel
  • a layer of clothing under the fire-fighting overalls, e.g. technical underwear or equivalent is recommended
  • woollen or thicker socks
  • water bottle/drink

We recommend that you also bring spare clothes to replace any that might get soaked or wet. In the cold seasons, it is a good idea to be equipped with sufficiently warm underwear.

There are two changing rooms with lockable lockers for the use of trainees. Valuables should be left at home, as Meriturva is not responsible for items lost in lockers or other areas. If you require more privacy than usual or a gender-neutral changing room, please contact us before arriving at the course.

Photography and videography

In principle, filming is prohibited in the Upinniemi garrison area and also in the Fire Training Unit. However, filming in the Meriturva facilities and the training area is possible with the permission of the staff if agreed separately.

Food and accommodation

Students can usually dine at the Garrison Restaurant Anchor on the Garrison grounds. For more information on accommodation options, see here.
